More Michigan metal?!
Forming in 2002, Red I Flight has faced many challenges. The band got their name from the song "Red Eye Flight" by Candiria. The "Eye" was changed to "I" to represent togetherness. Afterall, the band was formed around three brothers: vocalists John and Josh and drummer Jesse Robinson. The band independently released a five song demo in 2004 called "Many are the dead who have prayed for this moment". Two years of countless shows would follow the release and in 2006 the band opened up for The Taste of Chaos Tour at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Red I Flight has shared the stage with bands such as: The Acacia Strain, As I Lay Dying, Atreyu, Between the Buried and Me, and many many more. Vocalist John Robinson tossed in the towel after dedicating nearly six years of his life to the band. He respectfully moved on and decided to take his career as a tattoo artist more serious. Red I Flight always had two vocalists. There was talk of possibly finding someone to fill the position but after a couple of months the band pushed forward with Josh as it's lone vocalist. Lucky for the band this worked out and Victory records asked the band to showcase a second time, after seeing them live at Dirtfest, 2007. Victory did not pass on Red I Flight the second time. "The Years" was recorded and was released in March of 2008. Red I Flight now with a full length under their belt, continues to tour and make fans all over the country.

i, Define.
I, define is a christian metal band from the Saginaw area. The band only started last year in hopes of spreading positivity in people's lives. With their sick breakdowns and uplifting lyrics the band will surely do just that. The band members include Ryan Gillet, Cody Leppien, Kory Jurek, Rhy Chermside, Tyler Reinert, & Brandon Shew. They have a huge show coming up for them so they have been extremely busy! They are super stoked though, and have been recording a bunch of their songs for the EP release! They are having a huge show in honor at the Fischer theatre in Frankenmuth. With their friends in We Are Royalty, A King at Heart, Before Color, and Wilson joining them in the festivities. They are giving away digital download cards to the first 50 people that show up! Words from the band themselves, "On January 6th, 2012, we are finally releasing our first EP, "Cornerstone." Its been a long, awesome year and a half since we became a band and we want to thank everyone who's been a part of it and supported us along the way. We want to make this night as rad as possible and want all of you to be a part of it!"
So come on out if you are a fan of any of these bands, or just to support some fellow classmates!
Saginaw metalcore
For the Fallen Dreams is a metal band from Saginaw, Michigan formed in 2003. They are currently signed to Rise Records. They have released a self-titled EP and three full-length albums (Changes, Relentless, & Back Burner). The bands current members are Dylan Richter (vocals), Jim Hocking (guitar), Kalan Blehm (guitar), & Arvin Sarathy (drums). If you enjoy bands like Bury Your Dead or Wilson you'll probably enjoy these guys.
They are definitely not all quiet.
If you like metal, then this band All's Quiet might be for you. The band from Detroit, Michigan has been around for about 7 years now, and finally shaped their band into what they enjoy. The band started out originally being called All's Quiet on the Western Front, from the book title, and then changed it to just All's Quiet about a year or two ago because that's what everyone called them anyway. They released their first EP in 2009 titles Like Vultures. Just recently a new song was released titled Tremors.
If you dig souther rock & metalcore this is the music for you.

What happened in vegas?
No, not well you were out on vacation. The band! What Happened in Vegas. It is what you get when you combine a few young hand some dudes, some poker chips, and a whole lot of energy. They are a Warren, Michigan based alternative band. They have sure came along way from practicing in ex-guitarist Travis' basement, that's for sure! The band is made up of five guys; Aaron Jerome, Ron Robinson, Kevin McCarty, Gage Lane, and TJ Mulawka. There sound has been compared to bands such as; All Time Low, Hit the Lights, Forever the Sickest Kids, etc. They have two EP's released so far. One self-titles the other called The Anatomy of a Boy's Mind. You can find these at local Hot Topic stores, iTunes, or asking the guys yourself. Growing up hanging out with these boys you'd know the madness behind their music. The boys are always having local shows, and touring around the states to improve their fan base. So go check them out on Facebook. They also just released a music video for their song Clearwater! Have a listen and I hope your ears enjoy what they hear.
Capeside Indie!
The band Wolves & Machines have been playing together since 2008. They are a indie/rock band from Saginaw Michigan and are signed with Capeside Records. The band has some rotating members (specifically bass players) but the four current members are Aaron Devries, Matty Ko, Scott Smith, and the newest edition Matt Feith. They all went to high school together but didn't become friends until after they graduated. The guys say that bands like Brand New, Minus the Bear, and Thrice sum up there favorite types of music. They have an EP that they released, and now a full-length album that is available for download titles Ailments.
Go give the album a listen, I'm betting it's the best new thing you've listened to in a while!

La Dispute. French? Not even close.
La Dispute is a progressive type rock band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is a band comprised of 5 guys from the midwest with an intense passion for using music and art to make life long friends. They strive to make music that is technical, artistic, and emotional in hopes of actually connecting with any interested in listening to them. They try and write music that shows people about themselves and life, they sing about things that truly matter and make lasting impressions.
The band consists of lead vocalist Jordan Dreyer, drummer Brad Vander Lugt, guitarists Chad Sterenberg and Kevin Whittemore and bass guitarist Adam Vass. They are labeled under No Sleep Records. The band formed together in 2004. As of right now, they have released two full-length albums and 7 EPs. There music is primarily post-hardcore with some screamo and melodic hardcore thrown into the mix. They also are noted for spoken word and blues influences. Well recognized elements of La Dispute's music are incorporating spoken word style passages into really intense songs, the use of highly complex lyrics, and Jordan Dreyer's inability to control his voice; (swapping between singing and screaming unpredictably).
If any of this sounds interesting to you, check em out! Keep supporting the local music scene!
One of the songs off their new full-length album Wildlife, and it's about Michigan!

Fan of folk?
Being a huge fan of the late band Your Best Friend I was pretty saddened when they broke up. They made pretty amazing music together. But, to my surprise some of the guys from Your Best Friend decided to start side projects. Depending your music fancy two of the boys Steven Coyler and John Bonham both started two separate groups. I think of which they both are indie/folk type rock. Steven's project is called Native America and you can listen to some of his music, as well as pick up an e.p. on his Facebook. (here) Along with Steven's music I am a huge fan of John's side project American Opera. If you are into acoustic folk rock check him out for sure! Some of his musical influences are Ben Folds & Manchester Orchestra.
I recently attended his first show in Saginaw at the Hamilton St. Pub and it was the first time I had ever listened to his music also. I went originally to see my other friends band play and stayed to check out John's set. I was astonished. It started out with just him and his guitar, but now he has a full band. My point of view, the band definitely makes the music along with John. Song after song he kept drawing me in, I even started singing along! Not like I'd ever heard these songs before, but it felt like I had been listening to them for years. Afterwards a close friend messaged him for some of his chords he plays and we've mastered playing some of the songs ourselves.
Either way go on and give him a like on Facebook. Or check out one of his songs right here!

WILSON
If I say chainsaws & rabid wolves and you think of Halloween, Wilson may not be for you. This hard rock/metal band from Detroit/East Lansing has some of the coolest guys I have ever had the pleasant surprise of chatting with. Rocking out, now that is a different story. For the past few years Wilson has transformed shows into parties, and concerts into riots.
They have shared stages with alike bands of Every Time I Die, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Valient Thorr, Escape the Fate, and Between the Buried and Me. Wilson has not only held their own, but have raised the bar for how much fun you can have watching live music. No matter what type of music you like, if you see them at a show you are bound to at least tap your foot.
The band consists of five dudes (using that term very loosely) with a brutal rhythm section and fret-board use of a wizard that bring together the best parts of metal and hook it into heavy straight-up rock n' roll. Don't be surprised if you see the extreme, gnarly dude in the back of the bar start dancing like a little girl on christmas morning when the music starts. Extreme demand from a large and still growing fan base has sold out two pressings of their debut Ep, "Standing on the Reel".
They have a new album in the works and a never ending tour schedule. If you are ready to party check out Wilson at www.wilsonrock.bandcamp.com.

Chiodos Bros!?
Ever heard of Chiodos? They are a post-hardcore band originally settled in Davison, Michigan. They were formed in 2001 under the name "The Chiodos Bros" originally named after some filmmakers. They released three EP's before there debut album, All's Well That Ends Well. It was released in 2005 and reached number three on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. After that they released there next album called, Bone Palace Ballet. After several tours and a spot on main stage at the Van's Warped tour they announced that they had to "let go" of frontman Craig Owens. After some lineup changes last winter the band started to record there third record. It was released and titled, Illuminaudio. The current lineup includes Pat McManaman (rhythm guitar), Bradley Bell (keyboard), Matt Goddard (bass guitar), Jason Hale (lead guitar), Brandon Bolmer (lead vocals), and Tanner Wayne (drums).

Looking for something set apart from the rest?
You've found it if you've ever listened to (Parent the Seas). Get it? Yeah, took me a minute too. These guys do what they love, and they sure love music. Frontmen Aaron and Steve started this group as a way to get away from all the other music that the Saginaw scene has been accustomed too. They wanted to start something fresh. To tell you the truth I enjoy what these guys are on to. They became a full four-piece band in the late winter of 2011. Adding a bass player (Jacob) & drummer (Matt) to the line up. I have went and watched these guys play at the Hamilton St. Pub in Saginaw and I must say they are crowd pleasers. Even though they just started out, they don't have recordings completed but they have such good stage presence. They play a collection of music they all like combined. I would say an alternative type of feel with lyrics that make your head spin. If this hasn't drawn you in to check them out at a show, I hear they give out free body massages. Now go ahead and support your local music scene!

Saginaw's pop punk band calls it a day.
Saginaw's local band "Act as One" has called it quits. After three years of jamming together they decided to stop making beautiful music. They say that some of them are moving in different directions musically and personally. As a result of, they played one final show to go out with a bang. They all gathered up on September 2nd with there good friends in Last Night Saved my Life, Facts of Life, Brothers, & Doogie. To say the least it was a night to remember. Act as One hasn't been together for that long but they won't be forgotten. Although, for you fans of guys they might be starting a new project. Going by the name of Thunderdeath. You can check out a preview of the guys new jams here.
